NEWS AND INSIGHTS FROM FINTRX
As family offices increasingly expand their reach across industries, we continue to spotlight key trends shaping the alternative wealth landscape. In this piece, we explore the investment activity of family offices backing Asia-based technology companies. Leveraging FINTRX family office data, which tracks thousands of direct deal transactions from 4,300+ family offices globally, we highlight three firms actively investing in this fast-growing sector.
Founded in 1986 by Len Blavatnik, Access Industries is a New York-based single family office and industrial group with additional offices in London and Moscow. The firm invests across commodities, venture capital, real estate, and public equities, with key focus areas including technology, media, telecommunications, entertainment, natural resources, and chemicals.
Its venture arm, Access Technology Ventures, primarily targets later-stage funding rounds in established companies. In January 2019, the firm made a direct investment in Haoqipei, a China-based B2B auto parts trading platform. With over $2 billion in investable assets, Access Technology Ventures remains highly active in the global tech sector, concentrating on opportunities across the U.S., Europe, and South America.
In the public markets, Access Industries holds notable positions in companies such as LyondellBasell, Clal Industries, and Calpine.
Founded in 2014, Echo Capital Group is a Santa Monica-based single family office that serves as the investment arm of David Merage and his family. Merage is best known as the Co-Founder of Chef America, the company behind popular frozen food products like Hot Pockets.
Echo operates as a subsidiary of Consolidated Investment Group, which also oversees the Merage family's broader investment portfolio and is listed on the FINTRX platform. The firm targets venture capital and private equity opportunities, with a focus on sectors including technology, food and beverage, apparel and accessories, household care, beauty, and retail services.
In August 2020, Echo Capital Group made a direct investment in Yungongchang, a Shenzhen-based leader in online manufacturing services. The firm typically provides growth capital and seeks preferred equity positions in its portfolio companies.
Founded in 2013, DNA Capital is a São Paulo-based single family office with an additional presence in San Francisco. The firm manages the wealth of the Bueno family, founders of AMIL, one of Brazil’s largest health insurers, and several other healthcare ventures.
With a global investment approach, DNA Capital primarily targets multi-stage private equity and venture capital opportunities in the healthcare sector, while remaining open to other strategies on an opportunistic basis. In August 2019, the firm made a direct investment in The CareVoice, a Shanghai-based health insurance technology company serving the Asian market.
DNA Capital is an active co-investor and can participate as either a lead or supporting investor, depending on the opportunity.
