Breaking Down Female Representation in Private Wealth

Female participation in wealth management is rising, but the numbers reveal both progress and persistent gaps. Using FINTRX’s AI-powered dataset of over 40,000 advisory firms and 760,000 registered representatives, we examine the data to identify where representation is advancing, where it lags, and where opportunities exist for meaningful change. Beyond the data, FINTRX actively supports and amplifies female leadership in the industry. We are proud partners of events such as Kayo Women's Private Fund Summit and Markets Group’s Women in Private Wealth series, which provide platforms for connection, visibility, and empowerment for women across finance.

The Emergence of Female-Founded RIAs

Since 2010, the number of female-founded RIAs launched annually has nearly tripled. In 2025, 35 new firms have already opened their doors, bringing the total to 1,285 female-founded RIAs collectively managing more than $2.8 trillion in assets.

Ownership Trends

Ownership is one of the clearest indicators of influence in wealth management, and it’s where gender gaps remain most visible.

According to FINTRX data:

2,363 firms report more than 75% female ownership, compared to 18,465 firms reporting more than 75% male ownership
→ Over 7,200 firms report less than 5% female ownership

These figures highlight the disconnect between the increasing number of women entering the industry and the comparatively small number who can lead firms or hold meaningful equity stakes.

Representation Across the Industry

Beyond ownership, the imbalance carries through to advisory and leadership roles:

  • → Women make up 26.7% of all registered reps
25.6% of family office contacts are women
    → 19.3% of women occupy a C-suite role

The Next Generation of Talent

FINTRX tracks 12,016 registered reps with less than one year of experience, a promising influx of fresh talent. Encouragingly, female representation is strongest in the youngest cohorts:

  • → Age 20–30: 25,776 women vs. 71,394 men
    Age 30–40: 31,701 women vs. 89,927 men

However, representation declines sharply past age 50, pointing to a retention challenge that must be solved for more women to reach leadership.
