Record Wave of $10B+ Deals Fuels Global M&A Surge

Global mergers and acquisitions surged past $1 trillion in the third quarter, marking one of the busiest periods for dealmaking in recent years. A record 14 transactions valued above $10 billion were announced over the summer, including the leveraged buyout of Electronic Arts, Union Pacific’s takeover of Norfolk Southern, Anglo American’s merger with Teck, and Palo Networks’ acquisition of CyberArk. In total, 47 mega-deals have been struck so far this year, the highest on record, alongside major corporate breakups such as Kraft Heinz’s split and Keurig Dr Pepper’s divestment of its coffee arm. Globally, M&A volume has climbed to $3.1 trillion year-to-date, up 35% from last year, fueling near-record investment banking fees of $95.4 billion. Advisors suggest renewed confidence, shifting market conditions, and evolving antitrust policies are bringing long-shelved transactions back to life. With momentum building, bankers and lawyers expect the wave of transformative deals to continue.
